Can Road Trips Make You Happier? The Science Says "Yes!"

The first full week of May is National Travel and Tourism Week, an annual tradition for the traveling community. It's a reminder of why we travel and the impact it has on local economies, businesses, communities, and personal well being. In fact, in 2021, the Journal of Tourism Analysis published a study claiming that people who travel more than 75 miles from home are 7% happier than those who travel very rarely or not at all.

May is a great time to hit the road on PA Route 6 -- in a car, on a motorcycle, or even by bicycle. With so much to see and do, it's a tough task to keep this newsletter a manageable length, so we decided to send out two editions this month. The second newsletter, slated to come out later this month, will feature articles about bike travel on PA Route 6 and what it means to be "bike friendly." Don't miss it!

In the meantime, there are some really neat events coming up this month on Route 6. But before you go, check out a couple of the latest blog posts on the website.

Our Road, Your Communities
The Wall That Heals will visit Erie, PA, over Memorial Day Weekend 2022 at the Zem Zem Shrine Club. The Wall exhibit features a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and a mobile education center.

The display opens Friday, May 27 at 12:00am and operates 24 hours until 2:00pm Monday, May 30.

About The Wall...

On Veterans Day 1996, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) unveiled a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., designed to travel to communities throughout the United States. Since its dedication, The Wall That Heals has been displayed at nearly 700 communities throughout the nation, spreading the Memorial’s healing legacy to millions.

Bringing The Wall home to communities throughout our country allows the souls enshrined on the Memorial to exist once more among family and friends in the peace and comfort of familiar surroundings. The traveling exhibit provides thousands of veterans who have been unable to cope with the prospect of facing The Wall to find the strength and courage to do so within their own communities, thus allowing the healing process to begin.
